Anwar Ibrahim to be hospitalised this Tuesday

PETALING JAYA: Jailed PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is reportedly unwell and will be hospitalised this Tuesday to seek medical treatment.

PKR parliamentary whip Datuk Johari Abdul said Anwar will be sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur on June 2, where he will undergo a full check-up, observation and treatment.

“We have observed that for some weeks now, Anwar has shown visible loss of weight.

“We have been informed by his family members and lawyers that he has lost up to 6kgs to date, which is very worrying if that weight loss continues,” Johari said during a press conference at PKR’s headquarters here today.”

Johari said the party was also informed that there was noticeable blood in Anwar’s stools, which required urgent medical assessment and treatment.

“Anwar’s blood pressure has also been irregular and was recently as high as 163/108 despite being on medication.

“On top of all this, he is suffering from a full thickness tear of his right shoulder capsule from an injury he suffered from a car accident a year ago,” he said.

Johari said Anwar’s shoulder injury was causing him pain and discomfort, and that he required an MRI scan, treatment and a possible surgery.

He added that Anwar had made repeated requests for medical treatment and hospitalisation, but to no avail.

“Even a simple request for an MRI on his shoulder saw no response for many weeks,” Johari said.

He, however, acknowledged that Anwar received a number of visits by doctors sent by the Ministry of Health, who are currently monitoring his condition.

“We were finally informed by Anwar’s lawyers that he will be hospitalised on June 2. We demand that Anwar be given the full medical attention and care that he requires,” said Johari.

Johari also urged Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to allow Anwar to remain in hospital until he received treatment and recovered.

“Anything less would be a further violation of his rights as a political prisoner,” he stressed.

Present were Anwar’s daughters, Nurul Izzah and Nurul Nuha.

Nurul Izzah said her family would urge the Home Ministry to allow an independent assessment on her father’s health.

“(If approved), a doctor will be appointed by the family to check on Anwar’s health. We will give our full cooperation,” she said.
