ALOR STAR: Police had arrested five people including a woman believed to be members of a drug syndicate during a raid at an illegal drug lab on Saturday.
State police chief Datuk Zamri Yahya , in a press conference today, said the suspects, aged 28 to 50 years old , were nabbed at the homestay which has been turned into a lab processing heroin following months of investigation and surveillance by Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, Kedah Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department and the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING).
"A total of 28.43kg heroin worth about RM1 million together with the equipment and chemical substance used to produce the drug was seized in the raid which took place last Saturday morning.
"We had also seized RM3,800 cash and eight vehicles of various types including a Mercedes Benz, Toyota and Honda worth about RM531,00," added Zamri.
