GEORGE TOWN: A 54-year-old man died at Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu here today when his motorcycle was knocked from the back by a van.
In the 6.15am incident, Mohd Hassan Zainul Abidin was heading towards the Gelugor roundabout from Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu, when he was knocked by a van.
Hassan fell on the road and was hit again when another motorcycle, which was also heading towards the roundabout, crashed into him.
The 35-year-old van driver then tried flee the scene but ended up losing control and crashed into the road divider, 1km from the scene.
Northeast district police chief Mior Faridaltrash Wahid said the second motorcyclist broke his left leg while the van driver suffered injuries to his head.
"Both of them are being treated at Penang Hospital while Hassan was taken for post mortem.
"The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) Road Transport Act 1987," he told reporters here today.
