Huawei P8 arrives in Southeast Asia

SINGAPORE: After months of anticipation it is finally here; Huawei’s P8, P8 Lite, and Talkband B2 makes its debut in the region, with the models expecting to reach Malaysia within the second week of the month.

The 5.2-inch display successor to the Ascend P7 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop and has a Kirin 930 Octa-Core 64-bit chipset, 3 GB RAM, 16 GB ROM memory, dual-sim hybrid stand-by, and a 2680mAh battery.

Unique features include a phone finding intelligent voice and knuckle sense technology – allowing you to double tap the screen with your knuckles to take a screenshot or to execute an instant photo crop, and its light painting and director camera modes accompanying its 13-megapixel camera.

The Lite variant with scaled down specs – 5-inch, 2GB RAM with 16 GB ROM, and a smaller 2200mAh battery, retains all the other features found on the standard P8.

Pricing of the devices in Malaysia have yet to be finalised though expected to be slightly more affordable after conversion. The P8 is expected to be priced for example around RM1,699 as opposed to RM1,900 (SGD 699) while there has yet to be any form of confirmation on the P8 Lite (SGD 329, RM 898).

The Talkband B2 is priced at SGD 239 (RM 653) and SGD 299 (RM 819) for both the classic and elite variants respectively.

The devices were first seen during the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona and subsequently launched in London. According to Huawei there are currently no plans to launch the P8 Max in the region and the Huawei Watch is expected to arrive some time later this year.
