Second cave in, more soil movement expected: Fire Dept

KUALA LUMPUR: Further soil movement at Jalan Imbi caused a second cave in, expanding the area to 20 metres at 12.20pm today.

City Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Azizan Ismail said the second movement occurred about three hours after the first cave in, widening the affected area to 200 square feet.

"This is the second movement as of now and we expect there will be more soil movement along the tunnel trail," he said, adding that firemen will monitor the area for at least a day.

Azizan said Syabas have been informed to turn off the water valves as the water level were contributing to the tunnel cave in.

He added there was a Tenaga Nasional Berhad's cable near the effected area and if the cables were spoiled, half of the city will experience a power cut off.

City Hall deputy director general of project implementation and maintenance, Datuk Mohd Najib Mohd said work is being done to extract waters from the sinkhole and protecting the cable.
