Police confirm more soil movement at Puchong landslide area

SERDANG: Police confirmed more soil movement at Jalan Wawasan 3/9 in Taman Wawasan Puchong following a landslide incident on Saturday evening.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner A A Anbalagan in a brief statement said soil erosion continued to occur at the landslide spot, causing more damage to the houses nearby.

He said authorities assessing the scene for remedial works realised there was soil movement in the affected area at about 3.30pm.

"Yesterday's soil movement had caused part of the cement in the front of some the houses to crumble and fall as a result of the soil movement," he said.

He added that remedial works have started to stabilise the slope and the affected area.

"So far 46 iron piles have already been installed out of the 375 proposed piles. Remedial works are still ongoing to fix the remaining iron piles," he said.

Meanwhile, Anbalagan also added that one of the four vehicles which had slid into the crater in the incident has been recovered.

"A Honda City which had fallen into the crater during the incident was also lifted out yesterday, using a crane at about 6pm. We have officially closed the temporary relief shelter at Dewan Laman Puteri 3 at 9pm last night, after the family of eight opted out," he said.

Yesterday, it was reported that 375 iron piles will be installed in the 150 square meters of the ruins to halt soil movement as well as stabilise the slope.

The installation work is being carried out by an appointed contractor following a report from Petaling District and Land Office, the Mineral and Geoscience Department and the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID).

The installation of the 375 iron piles is expected to take about two weeks to complete.

"Multiple agencies are currently at the location of the landslide to monitor the situation on the ground, from time to time.

The landslide incident was reported to have occurred at about 7.30pm on Saturday, due to nearly two hours of continuous heavy rain between 5.45pm and 7.30pm.

Nine houses were affected by the landslide, including structural damages at Jalan Wawasan 3/9 and Jalan Wawasan 3/14.

Those living in the two rows of houses were asked to vacate after authorities deemed it unsafe.
