Op Warta: 2,955 traffic offenders arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic police have arrested 2,955 traffic offenders with outstanding arrest warrants nationwide during the ongoing Op Warta.

  In a traffic report released by Federal police, police nabbed 776 people from Selangor, followed by Malacca (432) and Penang (366) between May 19 and Tuesday.

  A total of 2,438 traffic offenders were charged, while 517 were released on police bail.

  During the period, 15,527 offenders surrendered for failing to settle their arrest warrants.

  The operation was conducted on May 19 in a bid to track down traffic offenders who have outstanding summonses and warrants of arrest issued against them.

  During the operation, police set up roadblocks and paid door-to-door visits to track down the errant motorists.
