Septuagenarian woman dies after drinking bleach

KUALA LUMPUR: A septuagenarian woman died after drinking bleach at her house in Jalan Kuching on Tuesday.

The 74-year-old's condition was discovered by her daughter who had realised her 'strange' behaviour after she came out from the bathroom.

Sentul police chief ACP R. Munusamy said in the 5pm incident, the deceased's daughter detected the smell of detergent while her mother was walking to her bedroom.

"The victim was believed to have consumed 'Clorox' before exiting the bathroom. Her daughter who immediately checked the bathroom afterwards found an empty cup which was previously filled with the detergent," he said.

Concerned with the situation, the daughter then knocked on her mother's bedroom door and called out her name several times but was unanswered.

"The victim's daughter then told her husband about the situation before both of them broke the door open," Munusamy said.

He added that the victim was found lying on the bed gasping for air after the victim's daughter and son-in-law managed to get in.

She was then admitted to the Kuala Lumpur hospital and died while receiving treatment due to poisoning.
