Two friends charged with death of Syrian national

KUALA LUMPUR: Two friends were charged at the Sessions Court today with causing the death of a Syrian national whose body was found in a white Toyota Camry last month.

Mohd Nasir Mohd Salim@Halim and Shahibul Iqmal Khairol pleaded not guilty to the charge involving one Alkhunaini Naif Abdullah A., 30.

Nasir, 32, and Shahibul, 18, allegedly caused the victim's death at the sidewalk beside Man Room shop, Jalan Doraisamy here, between 5am and 6am on June 16.

Alkhunaini's shirtless body was found in the car which was 200m from the Dang Wangi police headquarters the same day.

Nasir was arrested on June 23 while Shahibul was detained two days later.

They face a maximum 30 years jail and fine if convicted of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304 of the Penal Code.

Judge Azman Ahmad granted Nasir and Shahibul RM20,000 bail with one surety each. He ordered them to surrender their passports.

Azman also ordered them to not disturb the prosecution witnesses and set Aug 3 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Norazlin Mohamad Yusoff prosecuted. Nasir and Shahibul were represented by counsel Idris Seydalavi and Fahmi Adilah respectively.
