A 4-month-old abuse victim baby is in critical condition

ALOR STAR: A four-month-old baby is fighting for her life at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) here after she was believed to have been abused at a nursery in Taman Perdana, Sungai Petani four days ago.

The victim Putri Wafa Mohd Saifudin is in critical condition and yet to regain consciousness, is believed to have suffered from internal bleeding in the brain and eyes.

The victim’s father, Mohd Saifudin Seman, 26, said he learnt of the incident when the nursery called him about 2.45pm on Wednesday.

Saifudin said one of the staff told him that they were heading to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital after his daughter suffered from seizure.

“Due to the extent of her injuries, the physician who attended to her knew immediately it was an abuse case and told us to lodge a police report.

“My daughter later was transferred to the HSB for further treatment and she was being given intensive care and not allowed to have visitors, including family members except her mother,” he said when met at the hospital here today.

Meanwhile, Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Khalil Ariffin confirmed the incident and the case was being investigated under section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 for ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment or exposure of children.
