A 61-year-old Singaporean lorry driver arrested for hitting colleague

JOHOR BARU: A 61-year-old Singaporean lorry driver was arrested after he allegedly hit his colleague over what was believed to be an argument concerning debts, at the Sultan Abu Bakar customs, immigration and quarantine building in Tanjung Kupang on Tuesday night.

Nusajaya district police chief Superintendent Noor Hashim Mohamad said the 41-year-old victim, a Malaysian living in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Skudai sustained a wound on the forehead after the suspect hit him with a metal rod in the 10pm incident.

The victim was sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here for treatment where he required 10 stitches.

Hashim said both men were working as drivers in a Singapore-based company which has a fleet of lorries and cargo containers.

Preliminary investigations revealed the victim had allegedly asked for the repayment of money owed to him before the argument turned violent.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt.
