Historic win for Pandelela in World Aquatics Championships

KUALA LUMPUR: Diver Pandelela Rinong etched her name in history books by becoming the first Malaysian to finish on the podium in an individual event in the World Aquatics Championships.

The 22-year-old posted a five-dive score of 385.05 points to win a bronze medal, edging defending champion Si Yajie of China, who finished fourth on 384.40 in the women’s 10m platform individual discipline in Kazan, Russia, today.

North Korean Kim Kuk Hyang caused the biggest upset by dethroning China in the event on her debut by winning the gold medal with 397.05 points. China’s 14-year-old Ren Qian took silver on 388.00.
