Wendy Ng finishes eighth in Kazan

DIVER Wendy Ng finished eighth in the women’s 3m springboard individual final at the World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, Russia yesterday.

The 22-year-old posted 311.10 points in the event won by China’s Shi Tingmao, who amassed a 383.55 total.

He Zi of China took the silver medal with 377.45, followed by Italy’s Tania Cagnotto on 356.15.

Failure to win a medal was expected but finishing in the top eight is a decent result for Wendy, who is the second Malaysian diver to qualify for the Olympics in Rio next year.

Pandelela Rinong clinched an Olympic berth en route to finishing third in the women’s 10m platform individual event on Thursday.

Next year’s World Cup in Rio will offer 18 more Olympic slots for individual events.
