Esszone curfew extended to Aug 21

KOTA KINABALU: The 7pm to 5am curfew at six districts within the Eastern Sabah Safety Zone has been extended until August 21.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman announced this, adding the security forces will continue step up measures to safeguard people's safety.

"There are threats from kidnap group for ransom and Abu Sayyaf members who are planning to enter Sabah to carry out crime," he said in a statement.

Currently, the curfew hour has entered its 24th phase and will end on August 5.

The curfew was imposed in July 2014 following the kidnapping of a marine policeman on Pulau Mabul off Semporna.

Recent kidnapping incident occurred in May where gunmen stormed seafood Ocean King Restaurant in Sandakan and abducted the owner and a customer.
