Third time unlucky for bungling burglars

SEREMBAN: It was third time unlucky for three burglars who failed to break into two houses, then got caught while carting away goods from a third house on Friday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Zaki Harun said the trio were detained 10 minutes after receiving a call from the public.

The burglars had attempted to break into two houses in Seremban 3 but failed. Undaunted, they tried again and managed to break into a third house in the same area about 1.30pm.

However, they were observed in the act and a neighbour called police, who reacted swiftly enough to catch them in the act.

“When police arrived at the scene, two of the suspects were moving the stolen goods into their car, while another one was waiting in the car,” said Zaki.

“Upon noticing the presence of police, one of the suspects jump into their car, while another suspect fled the scene with the victim's car. However, we managed to arrest them all after a short-chase.”

He said police had collected fingerprints from the first two houses, adding that even though fingerprint analyses were still being done, they were confident the trio were also involved in the attempted burglaries based on initial investigations.

“We believed the three suspects were from a syndicate in burglaries in neighbouring districts (as well). We will be working with police in the respective districts in the course of our investigation,” he said.
