Three men arrested for extortion

KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested three men who attempted to extort money from a woman over the victim’s personal video and pictures.

The trio, aged 31 to 46 years old work as technician, were believed to have broken into the woman's house at Cyber City near here in June 24.

They had stolen the victim’s mobile phone and laptop.

Suspects obtained the said material and victim's contact number from the laptop.

District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said the victim received a call from a man on Thursday asking her RM1,500.

The suspect also threatened to put the intimate pictures and videos should the victim refused to pay.

The men were arrested two days later in Luyang.

Two of them, aged 31 and 38, have criminal records for drug abuse and possession of stolen items.

All were tested positive for drugs.

Polis had also confiscated four smartphones, a laptop, a computer desktop, and a car.

The case is being investigated under section 384 of the Penal Code and Section 15 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
