Four policemen arrested in Kepong extortion case

KUALA LUMPUR: Four policemen have been arrested following a case of extortion that happened in an apartment complex in Kepong.

City police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid in a statement said following a police report made on Jan 4, the police detained four policemen aged between 28 and 41 years old who are believed to be involved in the incident.

"The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code.

"The Kuala Lumpur Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) is also conducting an inquiry into the officers' reluctance to accept police reports from the public."

He said the police are also taking the matter of refusing to accept police reports and will take strict action against those who do so.

Allaudeen also urged the public to not engage in any speculation that could disrupt the investigation or cause public concern.

Yesterday, it was reported that Danny Goh was stopped by four policemen in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur on Dec 23.

Goh said the police had checked his MyKad and demanded to see his phone, alleging he was involved in illegal activities due to work-related data.

Upon Goh's denial of these allegations, the policemen allegedly threatened him with court prosecution and imprisonment, demanding RM10,000 as compensation to settle the matter.

After transferring an initial sum of RM1,000, he then handed over RM9,000 in cash to the policemen.

Following this, he sought help from the assistant to the Kepong member of parliament, Lim Lip Eng, named Dic Lai, who advised him to file a police report.

Lai subsequently contacted the Sentul district police headquarters to verify the identities of the four policemen.

He claimed that upon learning of this action, all four policemen contacted Goh to settle the case, promising to return the RM10,000.

Lai alleged that when Goh refused to agree to the settlement, these policemen went to his residence to return the money.

Lai alleged that the Sentul and Dang Wangi district police headquarters refused to accept Goh's report because he had already paid RM10,000.

He added that Goh succeeded in making the report only on the "third attempt" last Thursday.

Lai said Bukit Aman and the Sentul district police headquarters are investigating the matter.

He added that Goh was summoned to the Sentul district police headquarters yesterday to identify those involved where he was only able to identify three out of the four policemen.
