Woman robs convenience store

GEORGE TOWN: Penang police are in search for a woman, believed to be in her 30s, who robbed two Nepalese men in a convenience store at Jalan Macalister today.

In the 12.55am incident, the suspect who was wearing a black T-shirt with helmet walked into the store on the pretext of buying two boxes of Dunhill cigarettes before she attempted the crime.

Northeast district OCPD Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalatrash said the suspect was armed with a knife and threatened the workers in the store before she escaped with a motorcycle.

“The close-circuit television (CCTV) footage revealed that she had threatened the two workers with knife and fled off.

“She used the knife to blackmail the storekeepers to hand over the cash and out of fear, one of them took RM155 from the counter and gave her.

“She then ran out from the store to a man who was waiting for her on a motorcycle to escape,” he said when contacted.

The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
