ALOR STAR: Camaraderie among residents of a small neighbourhood in Taman Sri Kota, Kuala Kedah here reflects the spirit of real Malaysians in commemorating the Independence Day.
More than 50 residents spent about two weeks to create a tank replica made from recycle items and spruced it up with 70 Jalur Gemilang and Kedah flags.
Taman Sri Kota Rukun Tetangga chairman Azlina Abdul Aziz said besides instilling patriotism especially among the young generation, the activity was also aimed at promoting togetherness and helping one another.
Apart from that Azlina said the purpose of making the tank replica and decorated it with Malaysian flags was to spare a thought about the significance of Merdeka and what it means to be a Malaysian.
“We used tyres, disposable banners, bamboos and pipes to make the tank and we have been working on it since two weeks ago,” she said when met today.
