Nur Jazlan thankful for peaceful rally

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamad thanked Bersih 4 participants and the police on duty for the peaceful rally and for maintaining public order in the city centre yesterday.

“Thanks to the participants of Bersih for peaceful demo so far. Thanks to the police for being patient and tolerant maintaining public order,” he tweeted last night.

The Pulai MP then called on Bersih participants to head back home to spend the weekend with their families.

“Bersih participants should now go home for the night and be with their families and enjoy the rest of the weekend.”

Nur Jazlan had on Aug 27 urged the public to stay away from Bersih 4 rally for fear that there might be “anarchists” among the rally goers who would provoke the police into using force against them.

Instead of taking it to the streets, he said, the protesters should channel their dissatisfaction towards the government via a ballot box.

He said the government had to fork out millions of ringgit due to the rally as it had to deploy about 4,000 police personnel to ensure public order during the protest.
