Syed Mokhtar did not write viral article, says Albukhary Foundation

KUALA LUMPUR: The Albukhary Foundation says its chairman, Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary, was not the author of an article titled "Luahan Hati Tran Sri Syed Mokhtar Bukhary Berkenaan Najib Razak".

The article first surfaced on Aug 29 2015, and has gained traction after being reproduced in social media sites and spread via the WhatsApp messaging application.

In a statement today, the foundation said the article has misled the public into thinking or believing that it was Syed Mokhtar who had written it.

"Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar is the founder of the Albukhary Foundation and has served as the chairman since its inception in March 1996. His belief is grounded on the Muslim faith of Taqwa (submission to God) and Ehsan (Compassion) to create an equitable order in society.

"He strongly prescribes to the values of hard work, discipline, honesty and humility. His commitment to society and nation building is unquestionable.

"The Albukhary Foundation is a charitable organization with a vision of forging a more equitable and tolerant world through social welfare, education and cultural initiatives that bridge the divide between the haves and have-nots, and between the Muslim and non-Muslim worlds. As such, the foundation is apolitical and non-discriminatory.

"We do not condone the act of impersonating Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar including any unlawful or unauthorized use of his name," it added.

The foundation said to avoid doubt or confusion, the Albukhary Foundation’s website continues to be the sole official public medium for Syed Mokhtar.

"We at the Albukhary Foundation pray for the continuous success and growth of our beloved Malaysia," it concluded.
