Malaysia Wushu team win 10 gold medals at Kinmen Cup World Wushu Championship

KUCHING: Malaysia won 10 gold, three silver and one bronze medals at the first Kinmen Cup World Wushu Championship in Kinmen, Taiwan on August 8 to 9.

The Nanyang Wushu federation of Sarawak, led by Professor Datuk Seri Dr Song Swee Hee represented the country at the event, participated by more than 3,000 participants from 30 countries.

In a statement here today, Dr Song said the team also won the “Martial Arts Academics Thesis” through its team manager, Datuk Seri Dr Yeo Liew Yian and the best team awards.

Dr Song himself was awarded the Golden Lifetime Achievment award.

He said team members, Lai lee Sze and Alan Song Chun Hui both won three golden medals each while Alan Yeo Kai Xiang, a student of the Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak campus won two gold medals.

Meanwhile, according to Dr Song, who is the chairman of the Martial Arts Federation of Malaysia and the Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak, the national Nanyang Wushu team had to date won a total of 239 gold medal, 117 silver, 55 bronze medals at various international competitions.

“We are glad to be able to help raise the standard and development of Wushu in the country.

“We are also very happy through our efforts we are helping to promote Malaysia and Sarawak to the world,” he said. –BERNAMA
