A spanking new Playspace for performance

PETALING JAYA: It was a musical journey through the ages from the classical era to contemporary times during the launch party on Wednesday for a new performance venue named Playspace.

Located at G3, The Place, No.1 Jalan PJU 8/5G, Damansara Perdana, the space saw a great turnout of invited guests that were treated to a high energy 40-minute live performance covering different decades in music, which included the swinging sixties, groovy seventies and the pop-tastic eighties.

A variety of well-known and indie artistes, such as Junji Delfino, Nikki Palikat, Liyana Fizi and Reza Salleh, belted out recognisable tunes and were accompanied by a sizzling house band, comprised of music director Melina William (on bass), David Tebari (guitar), Omar Ibrahim (drums), Sharon Chong (keys) and Zalila Lee (percussion).

The show, which was hosted by Edwin Sumun, showcased the new venue’s good sound and acoustics, as well as dazzling lights in an intimate, no frills setting.

A versatile space for live gigs, live recordings, masterclasses, intimate theatre performances or just a fun creative outlet, Playspace can accommodate 200 standing audience members or a seating capacity for 100.

The new venue is founded by Cathy Chin (with more than 10 years of experience in the performing arts), Anthony Yap (eight years of production experience in both the studio and for live events) and William (a multi-hyphenate in the music scene and frontwoman of power trio rock outfit Tempered Mental).
