Supermarket robbers chased down by members of the public

KUALA LUMPUR: Two suspects were chased down by members of the public and nabbed after robbing a supermarket in Taman Bunga Raya, Wangsa Maju last night.

The suspects had fled with RM237 in cash and RM785 worth of cigarettes from the store before they were cornered by members of the public, who nabbed them and handed them over to the police.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said in the 12am incident, a suspect had threatened the store assistant with an iron rod and forced him to open the cashier till.

His accomplice meanwhile waited on a motorcycle outside the shop.

Out of fear, the store assistant, a Pakistani, handed over the cash as well as cigarettes and cigars.

However when the robber left, the cashier’s yell for help was heard by a waiter at a nearby restaurant. The waiter and his colleagues then chased down the robbers down an alley, where the culprits were eventually overpowered.

Police were alerted and subsequently arrested the suspects.
