Motorcyclist killed in accident with driverless trailer

NINONG TEBAL: A motorcyclist in his 40s was killed in a freak accident when he was hit by a driverless trailer lorry in Simpang Empat today.

Tan Teng Cheong was killed when the trailer lorry, said to have been parked for three weeks at a petrol station, began rolling down and hit his machine as he was passing by.

Seberang Prai Selatan police chief Superintendent Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said the victim died on the spot in the 8.45am incident.

"Checks with the petrol station workers revealed that the trailer had been at the location for nearly three weeks now.

"No driver was inside the trailer when it suddenly moved. We are still investigating how the vehicle moved on its own and hit the motorist," he said.

Wan Hassan said police were still trying to trace the victim's family.

The case has been classified under section 304(a) of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence.
