15-year-old escapes death after being pierced by palm harvester

SABAK BERNAM: A 15-year-old boy narrowly escaped death when a palm harvester pierced through his body after he slipped and fell from a lorry while carrying the metal equipment in Kampung Tebuk Jawa here this morning.

In the 10am incident, Nadzif Azamudiin Mohd Yusof who was helping out at the oil palm plantation on a school closed day had the sharp object impale his left side armpit which went through the right side of his neck.

City Fire and Rescue Department chief operations officer Samsol Maarif Saibani said six personnel from the Titiwangsa fire station were deployed to the scene after receiving a call around 3pm.

The boy was then rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Hospital (HTAJ) here but was transported to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

Firemen managed to cut off the iron rod in the two-hour rescue effort, Samsol said.

"The boy had slipped while moving the harvester from the tractor to the lorry. He was holding it in his hands when the accident happened," he added.

The victim who is a student at the Parit Buntar religious school here was reported to be in a stable condition.
