25 illegal immigrants nabbed in Kota Tinggi

KOTA TINGGI: Police arrested 25 Indonesian men for illegally entering the country without valid travel documents during an operation in the Kuala Sedili Besar coastal area around midnight today.

The illegal immigrants aged between 19 and 50 were sitting in groups along a seaside forested area in Pasir Logok, here, before they were ambushed by the Region Two marine police raiding team.

Southern Region 2 marine police commander, Assistant Commissioner Paul Khiu Khon Chiang said all the Indonesians failed to provide valid identification documents upon checks by the raiding team.

"All of them will be detained at the Bandar Penawar police station pending investigation," he said.

Khiu said the case is being investigated under Section 26A of the Anti Trafficking in Persons and Anti Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007 and the Immigration Act 1959/63.
