KL shares end morning session on firm note

KUALA LUMPUR: Shares on Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session on a firm note today due to stronger buying support across-the board.

At 12.30 pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was quoted 3.78 points higher at 1,708.81, after hovering between 1,695.38 and 1,710.25 in the morning session.

Market breadth was positive with gainers outpacing losers 416 to 290 with 307 counters unchanged, 812 untraded and 27 others suspended. Turnover stood at 1.33 billion shares worth RM978.75 million.

Among top gainers were industrial products stocks Top Glove (+48 sen to RM9.58), Sam Engineering (+39 sen to RM7.68) and HCK Capital (+24 sen to RM3.30).

Top losers, on the other hand, were Hong Leong Financial (-18 sen to RM14.76), Batu Kawan (-18 sen to RM17.32) and Petronas Dagangan (-16 sen to RM23.34).

For the heavyweights, Maybank added two sen to RM8.63, Public Bank appreciated eight sen to RM18.68, Tenaga lost six sen to RM12.76 and Axiata fell three sen to RM6.35.

Among the actives, MQ Technology eased 1.5 sen to 10.5 sen, The Media Shoppe went down half-a-sen to 10.5 sen and iDimension added half-a-sen to 11.5 sen.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index added 54.02 points to 14,660.57, the Industrial Index rose 0.58 of-a-point to 3,341.25 and the Plantation Index increased 24.54 points to 7,511.94.

The FBM Emas Index edged up 34.54 points to 11,790.41, the FBMT100 Index was up 32.69 points to 11,494.19, the FBM Ace was 32.41 points higher at 6,040.05 and the FBM 70 perked 63.35 points to 12,843.01.

Meanwhile, Bursa Malaysia today issued an Unusual Market Activity (UMA) query to Tex Cycle Technology (M) Bhd due to the rise in its share price recently.

Tex Cycle’s stock stood at RM1.39 as at the lunch break, up one sen, with a total of 548,300 shares traded. – BERNAMA
