Music sifu M. Nasir as judge on Gegar Vaganza on Sunday

SHAH ALAM: Renowned singer-composer Datuk M. Nasir will sit in as judge in the popular reality singing show Gegar Vaganza on Sunday.

This marks his first appearance as a guest jury in a reality show.

M. Nasir will join the two permanent juries Datuk Ramli M.S. and Datuk Khadijah Ibrahim.

Gegar Vaganza pits 12 veteran and established singers against one another to win the grand prize of RM100,000. It airs every Sunday over Astro Ria (channel 104) and Ria HD (channel 123) at 9pm.

“When I received the offer to be a judge on the show, I took some time before giving my nod. I think it’s going to be difficult because I’ve never done so. I don’t know what kind of judge I will be like and I don’t know whether my comments will be to the singers and the audiences’ liking. Just wait and see,” said M Nasir, who is known to be a man of few words.

The 58-year-old music maestro has had a stint as the principal for Season 3 of Astro’s Akademi Fantasia and even played mentor in another singing reality show Mania in 2012.

M. Nasir said he had watched the first episode of Gegar Vaganza and felt that some of the contestants had the potential to step into the finals.

“Let’s see how they will perform this week. I hope they will deliver a memorable performance,” he said, when met at a leading hotel here, yesterday.

The award-winning musician is also expected to perform on the show.

The Mentera Semerah Padi singer is also currently working on his new studio album, which is expected to be released next year.

“We are in the midst of recording the tracks for the album,” he said.

M. Nasir who has just completed the first three legs of his solo concert tour Konsert M. Nasir... Kembara, held in Pahang, Johor and Penang, will close the tour with the final concert in Malawati Stadium Shah Alam, on Nov 7.

Tickets for the concert are priced at RM50, RM100, RM200 and RM350 each, and are available at www.ticket2u.biz. For more information, call 03-6156 6700.
