KLANG: Nevermind the long distance, traffic congestion or parking problem, a trip to Klang's Little India from Selayang is something Thrinnya Silvakumar and her family would more than happy to endure every Deepavali when many would choose avoid.

To ensure the entire family soaks in the last minute Deepavali experience, Thrinnya, her siblings and their mother make it a point to go to Jalan Tengku Kelana and the surrounding areas of Little India on the eve of Festival of Lights.

Met at Ajuntha Textiles here, Thrinnya said her family preferred to shop for traditional clothes in Klang as it offered more choices, even more so on the eve as the prices would be much easier on the wallet.

"My sister, my mother and are shopping for traditional clothings such as saree, kurti, as well as Punjabi suits today.

"Punjabi suits are much cheaper today and the prices of saree would be slashed to RM100 from RM200.

"This makes our last minute shopping and the annual trip here worth it," said the 24-year-old international school teacher who was met when she was browsing for clothes.

Housewife Premala Kasinathan, who was spotted in a prayers item shop, said she had earlier bought the necessities but made another trip to Little India as she wanted to shop for more.

"It is important for everything to be perfect, especially prayer items, when we usher in the festival at midnight later. There are alot of pretty trinkets and decorations that I can buy to make my house more cheerful," said the 41-year-old admininistration clerk from Klang Utama.

Believing that Deepavali should be welcomed on a sweet note, bank manager R. Arokiasamy makes sure that festive delicacies are aplenty for his family and guests.

The 54-year-old said the stalls offering South Indian desserts and sweets were the best and affordably priced.

"I was born and raised here and my family has been buying desserts and sweets from a stall for many years. It is home made by a grandmother and her coconut burfi and kesari are the best," said Arokiasamy of Meru.
