13-year-old robber in critical condition after jumping off building

SENTUL: A 13-year-old teenager is in a critical condition after jumping off the roof of a double-storey building in his bid to flee from the police today.

The teenager, who was believed to have dropped out of school had earlier attempted to break into a restaurant in Laman Rimbunan Raya, Kepong with his accomplice.

District deputy police chief Superintendent Mohd Sukri Kaman said police was alerted by the public on the robbery attempt at about 6.30am.

"Upon reaching the scene about 15 minutes later, police saw a man at the second-storey of the building throwing a bag.

"The team arrested the 24-year-old man and seized the bag which contained tools believed to be used to break into the premises," he told reporters at a press conference today.

Investigations revealed the man had cut the padlock to gain access into the premises.

While arresting the man, police received a tipoff on another suspect who had fell from the roof at the other side of the building.

It was revealed the 13-year-old suspect had sustained head injuries and bruises all over his body from the fall.

"It is believed the teenager, who lived in the same neighbourhood with the first suspect, had attempted to flee by jumping from the roof when he realised his accomplice was nabbed," he said.

The teenager who is in a critical condition was admitted to the intensive care unit of Selayang Hospital for treatment.

The case was investigated under Section 453 for trespassing or housebreaking.
