3 men charged over viral Setapak lift robbery

KUALA LUMPUR: A film crew member and two others claimed trial at the Sessions Court to robbing a woman in a lift at a Setapak condominium last month, the incident purportedly captured in a viral video.

Ahmad Shafizi Shafei, 25, trader Muhammad Qusyahreen Zainurdin, 25, and telecommunications technician Mohamad Faizal Shamsudin, 26, were alleged to have robbed Lim, 26, in the main lift at Setapak Condo around 11.45am on Oct 17.

The trio allegedly robbed her - who was also purportedly punched and kicked by them - of her handbag at the lift.

The men were apprehended eleven days later to facilitate police investigation into the robbery where Lim allegedly suffered RM7,000 in losses.

The men may be jailed up to 20 years jail, fined and whipped if convicted under Section 394 of the Penal Code.

Judge Datuk Jagjit Singh granted each of the accused men RM20,000 with one surety and ordered them to report to the Sentul police station twice a month.

Jagjit also warned them to stay away from the victim and her family. He also set Dec 21 for mention.

The incident, captured on video via CCTV camera, allegedly showed the 23-year-old woman being brutally assaulted by two men in an elevator.

Allegedly, one of the men was captured viciously elbowing the woman against the wall of the elevator as the doors opened, while another dragged her outside.

As the woman clung on to her handbag, one of the men stomped on her.

The clip later showed the men entering the elevator and rifling through the contents of her handbag before fleeing.

Today, deputy public prosecutor Norazlin Mohamad Yusoff prosecuted while none of the three accused men were represented.
