Government sensitive to needs of employers and trade unions

SUBANG JAYA: The government is sandwiched between the wants and needs of employers and trade unions and is aware of the needs of both parties, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today.

The government, he added, was doing its best and is sensitive towards the needs of employers and employees, with several long and short term plans have been laid out.

Zahid said the hiring of foreign workers for certain sectors was not a long term but a short term plan, as it was to address the needs of several sectors such as construction and plantation.

He said one of the measures the government had taken was the creation of an online system to handle registration and monitoring of 1.5 million Bangladeshi workers.

This system, Zahid added, was to prevent middlemen from handling the entry of these workers who are coming in to fill up positions that locals would not take.

The home minister also said at the same time, employers need to adhere to the rules and regulations of the government by giving priority to locals before hiring foreign workers.
