Seven-year-old among illegals netted in 'Ops Ikrar'

KEMAMAN: A seven-year-old Burmese boy was one of 46 illegal immigrants nabbed in 'Ops Ikrar' at 10 separate locations near Dungun and Kemaman yesterday.

State Immigration enforcement chief Ahmad Salihin Salleh said the detainees were aged between 7 and 48.

Ahmad Salihin said 20 enforcement officers were involved in the 13-hour operation which ended at 11pm the same day.

"Those illegal workers were held at construction sites, kongsi as well as by the roadside, near Chukai, Kerteh, Kemasik, Alor Serdang and Sura," he said today.

Ahmad Salihin said three local men aged between 30 and 40, were summoned to assist the investigations for harbouring the illegals.

"We screened 80 foreign workers before nabbing 46 of them," he said.

The illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Myammar and Indonesia are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c), Section 5(1)(c) and Rule 39(b) of the Immigration Act 1952 .

They were sent to the Ajil Detention Centre for further action.
