KOTA BARU: Two children were left orphaned after their parents were killed in a car accident in Kuala Krai last night.
Muhammad Zulkifli Awang, 36, and his wife Shuhada Mat Hassan, 34, were returning home from a cousin’s house at Felda Paloh 2 in Gua Musang with their children when the accident happened.
The multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were traveling in collided head on with a trailer at the Kuala Krai-Gua Musang in Kampung Laloh.
The victims children were identified as Nur Umairah Hakimi, 6, and Muhamad Hafiz Hakimi, 2.
Kuala Krai fire and rescue operational commander Mohd Razani Mamat said Zulkifli was a fireman based in Gebeng, Pahang.
"We received a report on the accident at 11pm and when we arrived at the scene about 20 minutes later, we extricated two of the victims who were trapped in their MPV," he said.
Both Zulkifli and Shuhada were pronounced dead at the scene while their children suffered injuries. The lorry driver suffered minor injuries.
