KUANTAN: A housewife was killed while her husband and their baby were seriously injured when the car they were traveling in crashed into the road divider at Km201 of the East Coast Highway near Jengka here today.
Nur Erni Illiana Zamri, 23, from Perkampungan Bukit Goh here, died on the spot in the 11.30am incident.
Her husband Fazliee Mat Yassin, 24, and their son Muhammad Danish Naufal, 1, were taken to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here for treatment.
State Traffic Department staff officer Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Nadzri Zainal said the family was traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan when the accident occurred.
"There was a heavy rain at the time of the incident," he said. He said checks revealed that Fazliee, a contractor, lost control of the car when it ran over a puddle of water before crashing.
"The impact of the crash threw all three out of the car," he said.
Nadzri said police are gathering information from witnesses of the accident.
