Two robbers slit policeman's neck in robbery attempt

KUALA LUMPUR: A 27-year-old policeman was seriously injured when two men slit her neck during a struggle in an attempt to rob her near the Danau Kota Muslim Cemetery, Setapak here early yesterday.

In the 7am incident, the policeman with Lans Corperal rank, based in Gombak police station, was walking to buy breakfast when the two men, riding a motorcycle, approached her and pointed a knife at her neck.

City Criminal Investigation chief Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said the men in their 20s had told the victim to hand over all her important belongings.

"The policeman was trying to defend herself before one of the men slit her neck.

"Even though the policeman was badly injured, she tried to nab the men but they managed to escape without taking her belongings," he said when contacted yesterday.

Zainuddin said a group of passerby had sent the victim to her house before her family took her to a clinic to be treated.

"Due to the seriousness of her injury, the victim was referred to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for immediate surgery," he said adding that the policeman is in a stable condition after the surgery.

Zainuddin also added that police are currently tracking down the two suspects and the case was being investigated under section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt while committing a robbery.
