Youths arrested after trying to haul off ATM with Kancil

PONTIAN: A brazen attempt by two youths to steal RM160,000 from an automated teller machine (ATM) by yanking it from the Benut Post Office with their Perodua Kancil, failed miserably.

The two youths, aged 21 and 19 had tied a cable from their car to the ATM, and were attempting to rip the ATM from its base when the alarm went off.

Pontian District Police Chief Superintendent Zakaria Abd Rahman said the two youths abandoned the Perodua Kancil and hid behind the post office when policemen arrived at the scene.

One of the suspects was caught behind the post office, while the second suspect was nabbed at another location more than three hours later.
