Vapes still 'haram', but no ban in Negri Sembilan, says MB

SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan government today announced that it would not be banning the sale of vape-related materials in the state.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said although vaping was ‘haram’ (forbidden) for Muslims, the sale of vape materials were two different things.

He noted that the state fatwa council has adhered to the National Fatwa Council’s ruling on declaring vaping as haram.

“Vaping and selling vape products are two different things. It will be unfair for non-Muslims who want to vape.

"The state government only will decide on banning vape materials when the relevant authorities such as the Health Ministry instructs us to do so,” he told a press conference after chairing the weekly state executive councillors meeting at Wisma Negeri, here today.

Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Malacca had earlier declared that it would ban vaping in their respective states, following a Dec 21 decision by the National Fatwa Council to declare e-cigarettes and vapes as haram.
