Father and daughter die in Teluk Kumbar fire

GEORGE TOWN: A man and his three-month old daughter were killed in a fire at a fishing village at Teluk Kumbar here earlier this morning.

In the 2am incident, a 29-year-old man identified as Nazri Zainal Abidin, 29, and infant daughter, Damia Auliah Salsabila, were trapped by the grill of their home.

Both of them could not be saved in time as the fire had engulfed the double-storey home in entirety.

Five other occupants, however, were rescued. No injuries were reported.

According to Fire and Rescue Department officials, the fire was difficult to control and they took more than three hours to put it out.

Two brigades from Sri Balik Pulau and Bayan Baru and nine firemen responded to a distress call, while 37 volunteer firemen from six corps backed them up.

A forensic team was seen sweeping through the affected area to find out the cause of the incident.
