Kedah records 109 dengue cases in January

ALOR STAR: Kedah recorded 109 dengue cases between Jan 1 and Jan 31, an increase of nine cases or nine per cent compared to the same period last year.

State Health Department director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said three districts recorded an increase in cases compared to the same period last year.

The districts are Baling (29 cases from five); Kuala Muda (42 cases from 15); and Pendang (two).

Kulim, Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Padang Terap, Yan and Sik recorded a decrease in cases, with no deaths reported.

Dr Norhizan said fogging was carried out at 26,975 premises while abate was deposited at 16,178 others to destroy aedes larvae.

“The department issued 223 compounds under the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975 in January, amounting to RM111,500,” he said in a statement today.--BERNAMA
