Robbers shot in buttocks, leg after charging at police

DUNGUN: Two robbers were hurt and another escaped when a policeman foiled their attempt to break into a home in Kampung Batu Tiong, yesterday.

One of the men was shot in the buttocks, while another sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

District police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zailani Yaacub said a team of policemen arrived at the scene following a public tip-off of a robbery in progress in the 3.45am incident.

Realising the police's presence, two robbers, armed with sticks, charged at the police.

A policeman opened fire, shooting one of the men in the buttocks. Another robber was hit in the leg, while the third robber managed to flee.

Ahmad said the robbers were sent to hospital in Dungun and Kuala Terengganu for treatment.

Police have launched a manhunt for the third robber.
