Giant king cobra caught after water monitor lizard meal

JEMPOL: A five-meter long king cobra was caught at an oil palm plantation in Felda Pasoh Tiga here today, after it swallowed a water monitor lizard.

Jempol Civil Defence Department (JPAM) operation chief, Azirul Akmar Abd Aziz said, he and three officers rushed to the scene after receiving a call from one of the plantation’s workers, at 10.57am.

“The King Cobra was very aggressive and it took us about an hour to catch it,” he said.

The venomous snake, which weighed around 25 kilograms, was captured from under a chicken coop.

“We will hand the cobra over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department for further action,” he said.
