Second KTMB locomotive catches fire in three days

TAIPING: For the second time in three days, a Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) locomotive caught fire, this time near Kuala Tanjung just after it left the train station.

A State Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they received a distress call at 8.43pm and immediately dispatched a team from the Kamunting station to the scene.

He said when firemen arrived, the fire had damaged about 30 per cent of the locomotive.

However, none of the passengers were injured in the incident.

The locomotive was used for the Express Rakyat train which was supposed to reach Butterworth at 9.45pm.

The incident happened three days after a fire broke out on another Express Rakyat train near the KTMB station at Sungai Gadut.
