KUALA KANGSAR: It was an unforgettable moment for more than 1,000 people when the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and his consort Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim joined them at the state-level Chinese New Year celebration here tonight.
Sultan Nazrin and the royal entourage arrived at 9.20pm and were greeted with a lion dance performance.
Accompanied by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, the state ruler later presented 'ang pow' to the children.
In his speech, state Non-Muslim Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the people must preserve the racial harmony for future generations.
He said it was important to instil mutual respect among the young generation of various races.
Guests at the function were also entertained with traditional dances and a Chinese traditional musical performance from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Sung Hwa.
