Orang Asli in trouble for trapping tiger

SUNGKAI: State Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) Department is mulling legal action against the Orang Asli whose trap meant for wild boar ensnared a tiger instead.

Perhilitan director Rozidan Mohd Yassin said the matter is being investigated under Section 29 of the Wildlife Protection Act 2010.

"We have taken the 38-year-old Orang Asli's statement and once our investigation is completed, we will hand it over to our legal unit for further action," he said.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the male tiger at the National Wildlife Rescue Centre (NWRC) here today, Rozidan said the place where the tiger was found its roaming area.

"The tiger was found some 1km away from Kampung Orang Asli Batu 10," he added.

The 170kg Malayan Tiger was found on Sunday by the Orang Asli who had set a trap for wild boar.

It was only relocated to NWRC on Monday afternoon.
