Penang striker's 'physics-defying' goal now famous worldwide [VIDEO]

KUALA LUMPUR: A miracle goal by Penang football player Mohd Faiz Subri during the Super League clash between Penang and Pahang last night has taken the Internet by storm.

Faiz scored the goal in the 62nd minute when the football went in one direction, swerving from left to right before miraculously landing in the top corner of the net.

Footage of the outrageous free kick went viral on social media, with football fans claiming the goal has made the 28-year-old an immediate contender for the 2016 Puskas Award.

Netizens compared the stunning freekick to that of Roberto Carlos's famous strike for Brazil against France in the Tournoi de France in 1997.

The match took place at the Stadium Bandaraya Pulau Pinang, with Penang scoring 4-1 against Pahang.

Independent UK, in its article described the free kick as a goal that “appeared to defy physics.”

It said Faiz would be in contention for the award that recognises the best goal of the year thanks to his incredible free-kick.

“World Class free kick dari (from) Faiz Subri. Calon Puskas Award (nominee for Puskas Award)?” Daily Sukan tweeted.

Netizen Kamarul said: “Congrats Penang. What a fantastic amazing 4 goals especially that Roberto Carlos free kick skill by Faiz Subri.”
