Baby girl dies after being thrown from 18th floor of Danau Kota apartment

KUALA LUMPUR: A newborn baby plunged to her death after she was believed to have been thrown from the 18th floor of an apartment in Danau Kota, earlier today.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said the baby’s mother, a 39-year-old property agent, allegedly threw her baby from the unit’s balcony at 3am.

“We received a distress call on the incident about 8am. The baby girl was already pronounced dead.

“After scouring the area, police found a placenta around 30-metres away from the body,” he told a press conference at the district police station.

Investigation revealed the woman, who was going through a divorce, had rented a room at the apartment from a married couple.

She also has a five-year-old daughter.

Roy said the couple claimed that they did not know the woman was pregnant as she was plump, but said she had been moaning in pain before the incident.

“When the couple tried to help her, the woman shooed them away so they went into their room.

“Checks at the house showed blood trails from the toilet leading to the balcony,” he said.

Roy said police would obtain blood samples from the infant’s remains.

The case is being investigated under Section 309 (a) of the Penal Code for infanticide.
