Cabinet terminates Tun M's role in Petronas

KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet today in a unanimous decision decided to terminate Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s appointment as Petronas adviser.

In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office this evening, the decision was made following the former prime minister’s recent actions which were contrary to the country’s laws and constitution.

“The Cabinet today had discussed the actions of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, especially with regards to the launch of the ‘Deklarasi Rakyat’ together with opposition leaders last week.

“The declaration was meant towards toppling the government through means that are against the country’s laws and constitution.”

The Cabinet, said the statement, was of the opinion that as Tun Dr Mahathir no longer supports the present government, he should no longer hold any position related to the government of Malaysia.

“As such, the Cabinet today has unanimously decided to end his appointment as Petronas Adviser.”

Tun Dr Mahathir was appointed as Petronas adviser on Nov 28, 2003.
