Dr Mahathir-Lim Kit Siang declaration doesn't represent the rakyat: Najib

KUCHING: The Dr Mahathir-Lim Kit Siang declaration does not represent the sentiments and aspirations of the rakyat and is nothing more than a personal agenda.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the declaration was not mulled in the interest of the rakyat as claimed, and as such, should not be entertained.

"It was actually never the idea of the people; the majority of the people do not even agree with it (the declaration). So, please don't involve the people, it was his (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) own agenda," he said.

Speaking at the launch of the 'Malaysian National Digital Inclusion' program at the Kuching Waterfront here, Najib stressed on the importance of developing communication technology in tandem with the people's minds.

"We must not neglect the need to develop the minds of the people to ensure they are able to identify and differentiate between true and false information available on the Internet," he said.

Information in the Internet, particular on social media, Najib said, could have different versions, between the truth, the false and half-truths.

"Some stories are not true but are based on personal opinions and do not represent the interests of the people, just like what our former (prime minister) leader of more than 20 years did recently, by claiming that his declaration represented the people," he said, referring to Mahathir.
